This whole project sounds fascinating, Rich
At our Club meeting yesterday evening, our Librarian handed me "U.S.
Boat and Ship Modeler" Magazine from Spring 1988. On page 8 there
are some small photos of a "WHB" built by Bob Gregory of Westminster
CA.
One of the captions is interesting:
...Mississippi work and cargo boat, scratch built from Model Shipways
Plans. Paddle wheel frames are embroidery hoops. Bob will do a series
on building method, starting with system for enlarging original
drawings".
I take this to mean there would have been subesquent article(s) in
"US Boat and Ship Modeler", and it might be useful to try to track
these down. The Gregory model is single engine electric powered with
an Astro 40 through a nice belt drive reduction powering the main
crank.
Remember..if you want to exchange any thoughts on steam engines..we
have "engineers" in P/DUX and also Edmar in Brazil who has offered to
answer any LIVE STEAM realated questions. Mind you, it sounds like
you have this one pretty well figured out, and we look forward to
getting progress reports and pictures of the keel laying "ceremony."
regards.
