Search for copper tube

Hi,

for my little ANTON steam engine model I need a copper tube, outside dia of 3,5mm, inner dia as big as possible. Who knows a source in Germany for this?

I used to buy a lot of my supplies in Germany on my regular visits, and I could only ever get 3mm or 4mm copper or brass tubing.

Maybe specialist suppliers will do it, but also search for copper brake line for use on autos, they might do it in the sizes you require. It is the best quality you can get for steam engines, it has a very high temp and pressure factor, and half the price you would normally pay for short lengths. I buy it here in the UK in all the sizes I want (1/8", 5/32"[4mm] & 3/16") in 10 metre lengths.

it´s terrible with this tube 3,5mm!

The adresses, given by Eddy are very good, but they have no 3,5mm tube. Modellbau Niggel I did not know before, seems a good supplier!

John, Seems in EU no chance to get these tube. I already had the Idea with this cunifer brake tubes, too, you must know, that I am aomathing like a specialist in the Citroen Sm scene, and these cars have similar tubes for the brake hydraulics at the rear brakes. But this is 3,75mm- too thick.

That´s a problem, made by these French people of Anton Vapeur, who make nice steam engines, but use measurings which are not available. Just as on my Citroens. they have a lot of screws M7, M9 and so far. How speaks Obelix? "Ces sont fous, les Gaulois!" (= they are crazy, these French people). If a French is participating here, please see, that´s ironic. I am a frankophil German.

At easter time I will be for a visit at London. Do you know there a supplier, who has this tube? Please tell me the adress, mail adress and so far, so I will buy there.

How bad do you want it? $USD 212.00/meter. a bit expensive for my taste...

How long does the pieces need to be? Do you have to have the entire tube be 3.5mm, could ends be bushed up or down to fit your application? Slightly larger tubing could be turned down with a follower rest in a lathe for less than the are asking depending on the length.

Ok, that´s an idea to change the diameters of the ends.
the price of this tube seems high, but I sppose, they mean 100m.

Andreas,if you,re going to England anyway,you might as well take up Bogs' idea,and go to an automotive parts supplier.They will have 1/8th of an inch(3.2mm),or maybe 5/32(4mm).It's a LOT cheaper than trying to get it from any other source.And it will be in a soft state when you buy it.

But......why 3.5 mm tube?....I have not seen any other OD tubing than 2 mm [for gas], 3 mm or 4 mm [for steam] in the Anton range  ....

If the tube is being soldered into a fitting cone......could you not just manufacture a replacement cone with a 3.0 mm bore?

I understand we were taught never to start/construct a sentence with 'and' or 'but'.......but in my more mature years it seemed totally appropriate here.........Derek

Hi,

the dealer, who sold the ANTON engine to me, sent me his last tube with 3,5 OD in brass, so the problem was solved. it´s a french engine, and French engineers sometimes develop strange things. i know from my Citroen- oldies.

Annother question:

Now I have do insulate this 3,5mm steam tube between boiler and engine. What do you use for that, and where can I get it, if possible in Germany.

To insulate your steam pipe you need to get some white parcel or butchers meat string. Wind it neatly around the pipe and tuck the ends out of sight to lock them.

Hi PD's...... ....Andreas...as Stuart notes..... ..you must use cotton twine...none of that plastic string  .....a little drop of Superglue @ the start & finish is OK

Another tip is painting the string with 'Liquid Paper' correction fluid... ...looks like the original flat finish on that old asbestos material......Derek
