Two more contenders for big and odd:

The USS Wolverine IX-64 and USS Sable IX-81 - two steam powered paddle driven aircraft carriers that operated on Lake Michigan during WW2 training pilot carrier qualifications - combine strange and size.

Even at 1:96 scale, Eddy, you'll have a 66 inch long model!

Cheers

Hi all

While looking at the Detroit and Cleveland Navigation Company for another thread, I noticed this article about SABLE and WOLVERINE, which may be of interest

I know this topic has been 'dead' for about 3 years but came across this page today, which may be of interest.... I couldn't get the link above (http://twaintimes.net/boat/sbpage5.htm) to work but I guess this is the page it refers to - http://twaintimes.net/boat/sbpage5.html - even has a short video of wolverine in action :)

The original tracings of Seeandbee (Wolverine) and Greater Buffalo (Sable) are preserved at the Historical Collections of the Great Lakes, Bowling Green State University of Ohio. The collection includes many other Great Lakes paddle steamers as well as propeller steamers.

There does not appear to be an on-line list of plans; this was published as a book some years ago.  If any Paddleducks member wants to know if HCGL has plans for a given ship, plase feel free to e-mail me off-list.

Although the collection is understaffed, I believe it is possible for model builders to order sets of plans. Might take some time to make and send them.
