Starting with steam
« on: March 14, 2009, 12:13:43 AM »
Hans one of our new member says he is building "Peter Arnott's V-twin oscillator,as described in the "starting with steam"series in model boats mag of the late 80's." This was a very great series of articles. I had the complete set at one time and loaned it out and only got part of it back. Does anyone have a complete set that could be posted on our forum (if the publisher will allow)? I have the next set the V-4 and will be willing to try to scan them. Does anyone know of any further articles Peter Arnott did?
Regards,
Gerald.

Gerald,

Somewhere in my paper archives, I should have that set of articles. But they will only be photocopies, and I don't know how well they will scan.

If you can't get scans of the original articles, I will see what I can do as a rescue.

I scanned the whole series as well,so if required I can load them.v2 and v4,as well as the boiler bits.I have noticed though, when i print them, the text is a bit"fuzzy".
Hans.

Eddy,
Would there be any problems(Copyrights) with Hans loading them to this site?
Regards,
Gerald.

Eddy,

Regards,
Gerald.

If the material has been printed (or reprinted) within the last 50 years then it is subject to copyright, and you would need to get the copyright holders permission - Preferably in writing.

They were published in Model Boats Magazine in the 80s, when I look in the download section I fine article copies up to 2000, January. do we have an arrangement with them?

Gerald

Both Model Boats magazine and Marine Modelling International have given us permission to post paddler articles as long as they are more than 5 years old. As these are steam engine articles, we would be breaking our agreement with them, which is obviously something we do not want to do!

If not treading on any copyright toes,I would be happy to email you the scans direct,Gerald.
Would that be ok,Eddy?
I seem to remember there was a follow-up article about a water pump or something as well.

Although it's still techically illegal Hans, my experience is that companies aren't interested in taking any action against someone for swapping the odd item - it would be almost impossible to police, and the costs of legal action would mean it wasn't worth the time and effort involved.

So it's a different ballgame to blatantly putting something onto a website for ALL to grab. That would almost certainly result in action of some sort!

Copyright law is an absolute minefield which is why it has it's own specalist lawyers to understand all the implications....
