What a day!!
« on: December 22, 2007, 04:55:41 AM »
A few of you know that my wife suffers from epilepsy, and because of the years of seizures and god knows how many falls and bangs to the head, the part of her brain that controls balance has been damaged. This means that she's not that steady on her feet at the best of times.....

She went out to the shops this morning, and 30 minutes later I got a phonecall from a total stranger saying that Roz (my wife) had fallen and hurt herself. An ambulance had been called and they were waiting for it to arrive...... So, coat on and off I went like a madman... The ambulance had just arrived, and there was Roz with the left side of her face in a hell of a mess. The swelling was already so bad that she couldn't open her left eye, and there was blood everywhere.

Back home I went to get the car, and follow the ambulance to the local hospital A&E. Even after walking home, I still arrived at the hospital 10 minutes BEFORE the ambulance! A doctor examined her, and it came as no surprise that he wanted her to have some X-rays taken. We then had to wait for an hour and a half for a porter to wheel her round to the X-ray dept!!

Anyway, X-rays taken and back to A&E.... Then we suddenly get a visit from the head of the department, telling us that Roz had fractured a bone in her face, so we needed to see a maxillo-facial surgeon at another hospital - Into the car and off we go. Another one hour wait to see the surgeon, and then the truth started to hit home, Roz has broken her left cheekbone, her nose, and a bone to the left of her eye.

Now we have to wait for all the swelling to go down and back to hospital on monday so the surgeon can see just how serious the damage is - She may even be admitted on monday and have to spend christmas in hospital.....

So what are you planning to do this christmas? This isn't quite what we had planned!! :(

Sorry to hear that Eddie, should have wheeled her to xray yourself..
Please tell me they gave your wife something for the pain etc!
& why they did not keep her in hosp immediately? concussion obs at least!
you will help her to the toilet, bath etc so she doesn't fall again?
she doesn't have menieres disease (balance)as well? that can be cured!
All the best
Tony
