Clyde Built blockade runners of the American Civil War

Published last year and just appeared for the first time on ebay (tho just as cheap through abebooks)

Haven't seen a copy myself but as almost all the blockade runners from the Clyde were paddlers may be of interest to some of us.

 I think it is more of a financial history than  shipping history.

Thanks for the info, Alistair - looks like one to defer for the moment.


Am I alone in finding it somewhat frustrating not having a nautical bookshop next door?  So much ordered "sight unseen"  can be disappointing.

Here in Milton Keynes - about as far from the sea as one can get in the UK - the local bookshops (all parts of big chains) only ever seem to have two books on commercial shipping - and they are both about the Titanic.

Still have fond memories of the late-lamented John Smith and Porteous bookshops in Glasgow.

We now have a massive Borders in the former Royal  Bank building across from where Porteous used to be. But shipping books in  general bookshops are like hen's teeth. I normally get books by mail order,  mainly from Mainmast Books, although Amazon are sometimes good on price even on  obscure books
