looking for. 1/8th inch or 3mm plywood for hobbies,.

Hi im looking for some plywood thats about 1/8th of an inch in thickness . im going to build a paddlewheeler from a modified paper model plan at about 4 times the scale.   Any ideas WHERE i can find material like this in sheets up to  3ft or a meter long?

I'm in England, not the USA, but one place that I do know that could help with plywood is National Balsa http://www.nationalbalsa.com/index.htm

1/8" sounds very thick and heavy though, unless it's just for the hull formers? I'd suggest you use 1/16" ply for most of the construction as weight can be critical on paddlers if you don't want to end up with an unstable top heavy model... Add the weight necessary to get it down to the waterline by adding ballast low down in the hull.

Hi there!

Congratulations...your "modified" paper KRAKUS is ingenius and very attractive.  I have two copies of the original card stock model and the quality is rather poor although the ship is very appealing.

You'll find your scaling problems will become much easier if you use Microsofts Publisher program. You can even print banner lengths up to 4 feet and the proportional scaler with the rulers provided is very accurate.  It imports and exports directly with most graphics programs and escpecially Microsoft Draw which is an excellent little Vector based CAD program usually bundled with your Word WP.  It's extremely simple to use but most people don't know how to find it on their Word program.  I mention this as I notice that you use a lot of Bit map images and because they are Rasterized tend to show pixilated edges rather than smooth edges you get on a Vector based program.  The MS Draw also works well with other graphics formats so you can paste your scanned .jpg (preferable to .bmp) images and paste them easily.  Then create a second layer and "trace" over to create your "modified" images.

In any case you've done a great job on the paper KRAKUS.  You didnt mention if the larger model will be static or functional.  I think Eddy's advise about weight is if you are building an operating model.

A very good point Paul - I had assumed at that size it would be a working model, but even if it's a static, the thinner ply would be easier to work with anyway.

Actually the picture of the model is from the website,, my model turned out a bit less refined  :wink:

It felt kinda like making a paper swan with those big foam #1 fingers on each hand.
