Paddle gunboats
« on: June 22, 2005, 03:37:48 AM »
Greetings,

On pp 56 & 57 in _K.u.K. Dampfschiffe_ there is a photo of the Lagoon
Fflotilla in Venice including some interesting looking paddle
gunboats. Unfortunately, googling for paddle gunboats (or
"radkanonenboot") doesn't turn up anything interesting. Does anyone
know where one can find anything useful from a modelling perspective
(i.e. photos, drawings, plans, and such) for (K.u.K., british, german,
polish, ...) paddle gunboats (other than ACW Union & Confederate
gunboats)?

Regards
Torbjörn

Those interested in paddle gunboats might be interested in U.S.S. Michigan
of 1844, built for service on the Great Lakes. She was the first iron ship
in the US Navy. There is a photo on the web site of the Historical
Collections of the Great Lakes at Bowling Green State University in Ohio:

aand proceed through the search database sequence, entering Michigan as the
name and 1844 as the date in order to elimintae many other ships of the same
name.

I would asume she would also be shown on the sites which list US Naval
vessels.

I do not know if plans might be available, but perhaps in the Naval
archives?
