Hi Buddy!
Thanks for bringing Bill (Wilkinson's) giant size models to our
attention again. About 2 years ago I received a wonderful letter from
him detailing all the "MAN sized" models he had built. It was 11
pages of carefully hand written 81/2 by 11 sheets. He said he wrote
the letter over three months! The man is really quite unique. I tried
contacting him when I was in the UK a couple of years ago, but he
lives in a small apartment above a store, doesn't own (nor wishes to)
a computer or even a phone. I think you've met him havn't you, Eddy?
Last time I spoke to Paul Chester, he said Bill had not been very
well and was wishing to sell his ships. I don't know what the
disposition of the fleet is at this time.
Eddy, if you happen to see him again, please do remember to pass on
my very best wishes to him. As you say, his models are indeed
masterpieces and remarkably thing is, he builds them in his small
apartment in sections, and some of the hulls are even made from
waterproofed cardboard! It's nice to have a decent website where
Bill's work now can be showcased for the world to admire. I have
permission from him to post the photos he sent me which I will do at
some time.
More info is in my archived message 1374 nearly 2 years ago.
Thanks again, Eddy...and keep us posted of any other paddler action
in your part of the world.
PJ
