There may be another thread with on the the replica PS William IV, but I'm not finding it. IIRC, it was build as a bicentenary project. After some years, it lost its survey, and languished on the hard. A new group revived it to service. https://williamthefourth.org/history/ 180116-NSWPortAuthority-Newcastle-WilliamTheFourth, two photos Roderick Smith 53
Live steam / Re: Marine Steam Engine "Bogstandards" Forthcoming Build« Last post by JonCameron on December 06, 2024, 10:11:22 PM »Hello,
Sorry for resurrecting an old thread. I was wondering if you started to build this model yet? I agree a truly fitting tribute to John (bogstandard), would be seeing his original design doubled in size. I was lucky to know John, he helped me on the steep learning curve of model engineering. From the basics of grinding tool blanks, to more complex setups and jigs for machining operations. He sadly passed shortly after posting a goodbye message on the HMEM forum. I'll always remember most his flywheel finger machines. Great for anyone who often taps their fingers at a desk ![]() For anyone who hasn't seen John's original plans, fag paper sketches, and very detailed machining instructions, can be found here. https://www.machinistblog.com/bogstandards-paddleduck-engine-plans/ Regards Jon 54
Chat & Off Topic Stuff / Downloads MB22 notes« Last post by JonCameron on December 06, 2024, 09:33:30 PM »Hello,
I've added a note on the download page but unless anyone specifically looks at the MB22 download they won't see my note, so posting it in the forum for an answer instead. http://www.paddleducks.co.uk/smf/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;id=340 Malcolm in his notes refers to a 3" vertical boiler to go with the engine. Since I can only download 2 items a day, can someone point me in the direction of drawings for the boiler, or aren't they any drawings. If not I'll look for something suitable. Regards Jon 55

It should read "model to start" with my name at the end! I injured my left hand and wrist tendons early this year(I am left handed) so my left handed typing is all over the place! (And my modelling) I had to type and correct this simple message 5 times! Walter

Research / Re: CSS blockade runners.« Last post by Walter Snowdon on December 06, 2024, 04:16:31 AM »Hello Thomas. A very belated thank you for the excellent plans and information on Flamingo Your plans are super. Due to age and infirmity my building has been somewhat curtailed but I am still plodding away. All my models are now built to 1/72nd scale for ease of transport etc. PS ROSINE is almost 95% finished and I am looking for my next blockade Runner! Flamingo is amongst the favourites along with SS Bermuda a very succesfull runner even though she is a twin screwed steamer .She was built in my home town Stockton on Tees, just a mile from where I live.. Also one I am looking at is the PS Mary Bowers. There is a superb model of her in the National Civil War Museum at FORT COLUMBUS. You can find it on YOU TUBE listed as Curators corner no.29. The curator is standing in front of part of it unfortunately never the less a realy informative video. If any of our American friends are in a position to take some detailed photos of the model, particularly the hidden bow and any structure under the flying bridge I will be eternaly gratefull !! Well worth a look at. Walter.

Introduce Yourself / Re: New member from Oxfordshire, England« Last post by Eddy Matthews on December 04, 2024, 05:38:38 PM »Welcome Dave. The Glasgow is a very seaworthy paddler to st" Walterart on and to my mind was the best kit that Graupner ever produced. Eddy Matthews and I once worked on Kingswear Castle for a couple of days when she was at Chatham and both signed "ships articles as crew members for a trip down the Medway to the Thames. Great memories. I remember well cleaning all that brass work! A never ending task! ![]() And as part of the crew training, it worried me that we were shown how to scuttle the vessel!!!
