Title: Soft soldering white metal to brass
Post by: Derek Warner on June 18, 2005, 02:33:03 AM
Thanks for all the SeawaysShipmodelingList@yahoogroups.com responses - however it is amazing - I reverted
to a standard non fluxed solder wire & zinc chloride as the flux and the joint between a 1 mm diameter section
of "a white metal component" and brass sheet resulted in a perfect fluidised soldered joint - accordingly I will
substitute brass shim for the vent tube casing over aluminium - regards Derek

Thanks Mike - I tried this today - a 25W soldering iron, zinc {ferric} chloride as the flux & and a [lead/tin/aluminium]
based [Pb & Sn & Al] solder wire worked fine in a puddling mode to fill the V prep between the white metal vent
& the aluminium tube - a totally different method or process in soft soldering brass to brass etc where we can
use the induced heat between components to fluidise the solder etc - regards Derek
