Hi Paddleduckers,
as there is so much great debate on this subject, I was wondering
if a database , like we have for projects / books, could be set up
so that we can see just what sort of devices paddleduckers
are using for this very important part of our hobby ?
eg boat design/name,
boat dimensions, LOA, Paddlebox beam, Hull Beam, weight,
motor type/manufacturer (steam, electric, rubber bands, no. of units),
single fixed / dual fixed shaft, independent driven,
type of battery ( if electric drive),
drive type ( belt, direct, chain),
pulley/gear/chain drive ratios,
paddlewheel dimensions, no of blades, float dimensions, fixed/feathering,
suggested max RPM for efficient usage,
motor speed controller type( if any)
sucessful / failure,
contract email address
...etc
if setup, it could help newcomers in choosing appropriate gear from the start of their
project saving considerable time and effort and the knowledge that is has been tried.
It would be important that this database can be updated by members online so that
its upkeep does not fall upon a single member acting as a databse administrator.
Just a thought,
Brett
