Title: A place to spend some time
Post by: KC6OLD on June 15, 2005, 06:02:47 PM
Paddlers:
if you don't have a life, (like ME) here is a great site to wander through.
The Vancouver BC archives
http://www.city.vancouver.bc.ca/archives/webpubhtml/qbes/ws_scan.htm
go to ships and boats, 565 old photos! (Not many paddlers but very
interesting!) Note: it is arranged by date so stop digging at about 1915 .
Especially note WESTERN PACIFIC, and BEAVER. And give a good look at the
EMPRESS series they may not be paddlers but they are GORGEOUS!

Hey Gunner Dave...an excellent resource and i just spent an enjoyable
two hours on there..I guess that qualifies me for a "Lifeless" Award
too!

Naturally, the old Hudson Bay "Beaver" interests me greatly as she's
such an important part of our Maritime history here in the Pacific
north West.

Yup, those CP Empresses are something...but then of course I happen to
have a particularly warm spot for the coastal "Princesses"..and one in
particular..the lovely old CPN walking beam sidewheeler "Princess
Louise" ex/ "Olympia". If you like pictures of Canadian and American
ships of the Pacific northwest (or anything historical from
BC..specially railroads) check out the BC Archives right here in
beautiful Victoria.

Thanks again for the heads up on that Vancouver archive, GD...let me
know if you find any more good ones.
