Title: Double enders in the American Civil War and introduction
Post by: mitchtanz on June 15, 2005, 04:54:52 AM
Hi Everyone

My thanks to Paul Jordan for recruiting me. Unfortunately I live on
the wrong (west) side of Australia for paddle-steamers.

I am mainly interested in the ACW period: Agawam Class (USS Sassacus
etc... 27 built), Miami Class (USS Cimmerron... 12 built, USS
Conemaugh, USS Octorara) double enders and double ender developemnt
history. Also the big side wheelers such as USS Vandebuilt, USS
Saranac and USS Mississippi. The large civilian vessels that plied
the big US rivers also intrigue me.

Can you give me advice on any books, research tools I can use to find
out more. I will go through the Bookmarks and Files sections, as well
as search the Message sections.

Thanks for a wonderful forum.

Happy New Year (4 hours away as I write this in WA)
Mitch

A good book that cover these ships is "The Old Steam Navy: Volume 1
Frigates,Sloops, and Gunboats, !815-1885"
You can get it on Amazon.com.
