An ancient newbie here!
Thinking of scratch building Jupiter, a Clyde paddle steamer from 1898. Length will probably be just over a metre, say 1100mm.
I would like to go R/C live steam, but need advice on suitable engine/boiler installations. A new area for me, and I don't think anyone up here builds live steam models.
I would like to use feathering paddles, but I doubt there are any reasonably priced ones at 100mm diameter, so I will make up some fixed ones.
Advice please!

Jupiter was a beautifull paddler- especially in her early grey hull colour scheme. I also love her near sister (Atalanta) even though she was a 3 screw turbine ship!. You have many Scottish paddlers to plck from!Go for it ma wee laddy!! Regards, Walter.

1100 mm lenght may be a little less for this rather narrow and light draught paddler. Not so much the steam engine, but the boiler will have some more weight than an electric batterie. I made nearly 20 live steam driven paddlers - may be some examples will help your imagination comes to reality.
Smallest paddlers I `ve build are "Hjeilen" in 1 : 32 of 850 mm lenght and "Rigi" in scale 1 : 50 with 820 mm. But theese models are driven by dimunitive oscillating engines also with very tiny boilers.
For practical use a lenght between 1200 to 1800 mm should be the better way. I will post some pictures and you may be ask me some questions about live steam paddlers.

After scaling up the drawings I had, and looking at the boiler/engine combo I am thinking of using (Clevedon Steam 'Virgo), I realise there is no room at 1;48/1100mm!
Time to look for another paddler- I am just seeing what drawings are available- I might just come up with a non-scale 'generic' model.
