I am well into the build of Columbine, I guess I should have started this log earlier but better late than never. The prototype (the real boat) I am basing my model on was built in 1890 in Portsmouth for the Royal Navy as tender to convey Commodores and Admirals from ship to shore. She was converted to diesel some time after the 1st world war and used as a work boat. Around 1970 she was brought up to the Lake Windermere in the north of England and had a steam engine and boiler refitted. She is still active on the lake.
My model will be 1:7 scale being 1 metre long, I chose this size as it will fit into my car boot. I built the twin cylinder reversing engine a couple of years ago and the boiler was finished last year. The hull is fibre glass from a mold I shaped out of surfboard foam. I was doubtful of my skills in making the hull from timber with the quality I demand of myself.

Exact ;)
The false pairs are well realized

Progress has been made, the ribs are finished finally, each one took around an hour as they are all a bit different from each other. I am now working on the rudder supports prior to painting the outside.

The screws on the rudder shoe are temporary until I get the correct ones

I have made the base for the motor and boiler and put small routed groves in to simulate caulked timbers.

I filled the groves with black paint and sanded when dry followed with a coat of Estapol.

The hull is finally painted. The red is a little too red but the colour swatch showed it more like the old Red Lead paint colour. However when it is in the water not too much red will be visible. Next step is fitting out of the deck. I am undecided between Teak or Tasmanian Oak.

Progress has been made and I have commenced work on the decking. I had planed to use Teak but after locating some decided it was too dark for my liking, so I will be using the much lighted Tasmanian Oak.

With the hull the correct way up and the power plant fitted it is beginning to look like more like the real thing.

Many moons have passed since I have added to this post as other things about me have taken precedence. The edge decking is taking shape finally and only a couple more sections to add then I can commence on the cabin.

I am having a problem with uploading more photos with Photobucket. I seem to remember that other people have had issues. Any recommendations on an alternative system/

Gluing the Side trim to the deck. On another website I had some help in figuring out how to clamp the remaining 150mm. I need to make a special curved strip of wood with notches to allow clamping.

It has been a while since I posted updates so here are a few.

The cabin is coming together well.
The side sections of the roof were tricky as they have a bend as well as a twist
(http://i67.tinypic.com/4kh4c9.jpg)
The centre roof was straight forward, just a bend laterally.
