Hie friends and neighbors,
At October 15 th. I did an autumnal journey on bord of PS "Pirna" to Bad Schandau and back to Dresden.
PS "Pirna" build in 1898, is driven by a oscillating compound engine, the boiler has a automatic oil firing, only one maschinist for the engine is necessary.
Interesting also the historic steam steering engine, since 1992 no longer in use. All Dresden paddlers with exception of the still coal fired "Diesbar" of 1884 has now an electric hydraulic steering.
On route we met PS "Krippen" of 1885 (twin oscillating engine) and PS "Meissen" with compound oscillating engine. At Laubegast shipyard on land PS
"Diesbar" (oscillating engine by John Penn 1856) will be overhauled in the winter months. Also one of the diesel electric paddlers , built in the 1965, now out of use and in static role, we passed.

Model of second Elbe paddler "Königin Maria" from 1836. The original iron made vessel was built by professor Andreas Schubert. Two years later he constructed the first serviceable steam locomotive in Germany.
The last picture show the very first steamship in Germany, the "Prinzessin Charlotte" from 1816. Built by Humphrey, father and son, in Berlin and set in around Berlin on rivers Spree and Havel.
She was a center wheeler and made of firwood. Humphreys constituded the first steamship company on the continent with steamboat lines between Berlin and Hamburg in 1817. Unfortunately the company lastet only until 1821, when they must make the declaration of insolvency.
