Hi, Just joined. I am going to build HMS Volatile tug, have purchased hull from MMB. Mark supplies a plan sheet but doesn't give enough info i.e. what is the winch for underneath floor, I think its for the gigs but not sure. So I am trying to find a more informative set of plans. Has anybody got a set I could purchase? or do you know where I might get a set?
regards mike
ps. have attached photo of recent build, Typhoon tug.

Hi Mikep.
I am making a sister ship. Have a look at the Dromedary.
The plans have a few mistakes in them also there is slight differences
in each of the ships.
if you google the name of the boat you will find a few photo's.
Not much to go by. A big magnifying glass needed on the photo's.

Thanks mike for info, sussed out winch is for steering, so sorted that one. Have got a set of graupner Glasgow paddle wheels was going to use, but to big as wheel size measures up 120mm, and graupner ones are 140mm. So having to make own as can't seem to find a supplier, as most seem to have shut up shop. Have contacted NMM about plan set, but awaiting reply. Nice build by the way Mike.

float a boat au have paddle wheel kits
i wouldnt be rushing to smaller wheel diam , if you can fit bigger p wheels you will generate more thrust

I have spoken to Rhonda about the the wheels the bigger is 20mm over size and until I view the plan to see if they fit without sponsons modification for the first time I want a scale model not my interpretation of said model.
I have time to wait for the Hull & plan to arrive as Kim said he'll be listing his bits on his web site in the new year.

The hull and fittings arrived today I must say it's the best Hull moulding I've ever seen and the fittings require very little trimming.
Mark is an artist of the trade. :no1b
Almost have enough saved for the deck and fittings Kim Maclean of Clyde model boats produces I expect they'll be of equal quality also.

Question were the Volcano/Volatile tugs fitted with independent paddle steering with rudder or Just rudder?
:thinking :thinking

I'd be surprised if she wasn't fitted with independent paddle control, the so-called "tank steering". She certainly had a rudder and given she was designed as a heavy duty harbour tug, tank steering makes sense. Mind you it took me the best part of a year to determine if she had feathering paddles or not. The description of her says yes but the builder's model has plain paddles. A puzzle until I found this picture of Advice a sister ship.

Thanks mate,
I'm getting the feathering wheels depending on overall cost of all Kim sells and postage.
Having a bit of strife getting through to Kim my emails seem to end up in his spam folder.
