I just finished reading the 3 Vol. set of books "Great Lakes Ships We
Remember" editor, the Rev. Peter J. Van der Linden.
There are no less than 42 different side wheel paddlers in Vol. 1 with
photos and a short description of each including the aircraft carrier
WOLVERINE.
Vol. 2 has eleven wheelers, including the other a/c USS SABLE, and Vol. 3
has 5.
Many of the above are attributed to our Canadian friends and some
are/were just beautiful! I would like to see someone build a model of
the double ender PRIMROSE in it's early days. I was not impressed with
its rebuild in 1925.
One other boat in Vol. 1 was the railroad ferry GREAT WESTERN built in
1866. This would be a great (no pun intended) boat to build by somebody
in the railroad crowd. I checked a couple Grand Trunk websites today and
couldn't find anything on it.
I recommend the read.

The first is still in print from Brown Son and Ferguson in a newer (1990)
edition.
The second was re-issued towards the end of last year, although the
reproduction of the illustrations in the new print is poor compared to the
original. And the original had a profile drawing of the 1890 Duchess of
Hamilton on the inside of the dust wrapper.
