Title: Ireland calling
Post by: deverett on February 26, 2016, 11:15:26 PM
Hello all

I live in West Cork and must admit, I'm mainly interested in model engineering rather than boat building.

Whatever the modelling discipline, there isn't any one else anywhere near where I live - at least no-one who admits to making models, so I'm truly a lone hand.  Any shows I go to are quite a few hours drive away, necessitating a stay overnight.
I'm trying to educate the locals into the pleasures and relaxation qualities of modelling, but in the 12 years I've lived here, I haven't had any takers.  Oh, well, one day perhaps.

Dave,  I feel your pain. No one admits to modeling in any medium and those that do are always hours away. I have embarked on a different tack. If I can't find folks that do it, create your market. Mine I'm invigorating through my volunteer work at the nearby elementary school. We have something to talk about in common when it comes to modeling and they (my 3rd, 4th and 5th grade buddies) think it's pretty cool that I model aircraft, vehicles and ships. I am also making inroads at a local museum that caters to exhibiting pleasure boats (we live in the Lakes Region of Minnesota). I hope to be able to exhibit some of my ships there. And let's not forget the County Fair. A couple years of your ships on display for all to see is bound to generate interest.
