Just a brief introduction. Though not a paddle wheel boat builder I have an interest in open steam launches and steam tugs etc. Over the years as a ME I have built a number of engines starting with a Stuart 10V as a GCE project, nearly 50 years ago, through Reeves oscillators and a Stuart No.4.
My present interest is in a small twin for a boat of 36" length. I have seen Malcolm Beak's "Cyril" on numerous occasions at ME Exhibitions, the last being at Alexandra Palace on Friday last, and searching the web for details of the engine brought me here. Malcolm's comments about it being the right size for a small boat ring true as the 10V would swamp a hull of this size visually. Though the MB22 is quite a small engine my experience of clock making and building the smallest of the Southworth Engines "Weir" type boiler feed pump makes this a realistic challenge.
I have the Stan Bray book as a starter and was already aware of the missing details. Looking at the forum has already furnished details of the feed pump and by-pass and I would hope to be able to download the other details eventually.
Initially it will go in a ply hard chine "Rose" which I have already partly built and intended for the Reeves engine, but something more realistic like the River Queen would be the end goal.

Whilst I'm not a steam buff, I prefer electickery as it's easier, I can still appreciate the look (and smell) of a nicely made steamer. I'm sure there are lots of people here who will jump in and help where appropriate... Including Malcolm Beak. I always think it's a crying shame to make a nice steam plant and then hide it inside a hull where it cannot be seen, so I can understand your liking for open launches.
I'm not that far from you as I'm in Pickering.
