Title: Paddle tug Strongbow build
Post by: Old Brewer on December 01, 2015, 08:18:20 AM
Hello paddlers
I joined PDs 2 weeks ago with the aim to build "Maid of the Loch" but changed my mind after down loading the free plan of the paddle tug "Strongbow"which is written in German. This going to be a challenge from the start as I only speak English and Jibberish.
I bit the bullet and made a start by printing out the keel and bulkhead formers and pasting them onto 3mm birch ply, and have started cutting them out on the band saw. tomorrow I will take a few photos and try to post them in this blog.
this is my first attempt at a build blog so please excuse any c****ups. I will try to post regular updates on the build if it is of interest to other "paddlers".
Regards Steve.

Welcome Old Brewer

The Strongbow plans are problematic

1. The originals are in German text as a .pdf file of 11.7 Mb
2. I converted then to .doc [Word] for a colleague model ship builder over here.... Southsteyne2], however they were naturally still in German but at 11.7 Mb
3. After I translated them from German to English in Word, the file size grew to 52.9 Mb..... as all of the images blew the file size up
4. I then copied the 52.9 Mb file to a ZIP drive & my colleague uploaded it to his computer

So, if you send a PM e-mail to me confirming your land line e-mail, I can send the 11.7 Mb Word file to you........you could then translate it to English and split the file into manageable size hunks

Southsteyne2...[John may pick up on this & post some comments] .... Derek

I still cannot post an update with attachments of photos. a little advice would be useful.

You'll probably find the images are too large.. try reducing them in size. If you still cannot upload them, send them to me via email and I'll reduce them and add them to your thread.

Eddy   thanks for your help with the photo posting, I checked the file sizes and they were all around 3mb, I cropped the images down to 750kb and tried again, still no luck but error "file size to large" came up this time if I crop off any more there is not enough left to look at. I have altered the file size in the camera and will take more photos tomorrow, hopefully with more success this time, again many thanks Eddy.
Regards    Steve

You can always tell if its dog wood by the bark

Ideally you need to be below 250Kb in size, this is easily achievable and still gives a decent quality image for the forum. Again, if you cannot sort it, just email the images to me and I'll do it for you...

My god that sounds condescending, but it isn't meant to!!  :-\
