PJ,
I recently stumbled across an advertisement for the UK company,
Electronize Design, and checked out their website at
<www.electronize.co.uk>. They sell motors, speedcontrols, etc. which
probably would work best in speed type boats. The part that really
caught my attention is that they include a very clear graph of the
current draw/amps etc. that can be expected when using one of their
motors. It would be great if all dealers would do a similar service to
the end users like us. I would suggest you check it out if only to add
to ones own enlightenment. Maybe I'm simpleminded but I was impressed
especially after your extolling the virtues of ammeters. They have one
of these by the way that sells for L8.95 which I have no clue would be in
U.S. dollars.

Gentlemen.
Yes, I have used both the speed controllers and switches form Electronize.
They also supply kits which are very easy to put together and all mine
worked first time.
Worth following up.
Best regards
David
