Title: Westward Ho paddles

I have picked up the construction of my 1/48 "Westward Ho" again, after a long delay caused by other factors. Thanks to Andrew Collier I have most of the constructional data, but nothing on the paddles. Is there anything out there which would give me some idea? I have model engineering equipment so I can make my own, but I need something to go on, to avoid making expensive mistakes.
 Help!

Malcolm, From memory, the paddle wheels on the Westward Ho are the same as the paddles on the Glen Usk. But with 8 floats as opposed to 7 per Glen Usk. I will look it up tomorrow & post photo.

Had a look through me books, as promised, here is a photo of Britannia's wheel. Not the Westward Ho I am afraid but the Cambria, Britannia & Westward Ho considered sister ships. I hope you have looked at my Duke of Devonshire build, if not see page 4 on how I made her wheels. Westward Ho would have had metal floats, not wood as in the Duke's case.   Also a photo of my Glen Usk sailing with John Beddis Albion.

Thanks a lot for that, RGY. I've got a mill and rotary table, so I can make a start when I've got some material. I was thinking of using 5251 Aluminium, perhaps 1 or 1.2 mil. What do you think?
Have you any idea of the diameter (perhaps about 4 3/4 inch for the 1/48 scale?)

My Glen Usk wheels are 4.25" diameter, she was built for economy. Westward Ho had larger wheels , so 4.75" would be right. I am presuming you are building from scratch?
I used 2mm aluminium sheet, 1mm would be a little thin. As for 5251 only know what just read on net, work hardens not good. But good in marine environment this is irrelevant, unless you plan on mooring up in the sea for a month or so.  Mine was second hand so don't know what it is just ali. Yes, building from scratch, bread and butter hull. No bought-in parts so far.
I haven't posted the build, not very computer literate so haven't sussed out the method yet.
