Hi,
My name is Pete and I found this web site in my quest to know more about steam powered r/c boats.
For the last several years I have been working on a steam plant to power a sternwheeler style paddle boat. The vessel itself has yet to be built but I have made good progress on the engines. I chose to pattern my engines from the western river steam boats that ran the rivers in the US in the 1800's.
What I have built so far has been from scratch from bar stock of aluminum and brass and stainless. I don't have any plans other than the sketches I drew when thinking about how to build it. The bores are 5/8" with a stroke of 3 1/2".
Here are several videos of testing on youtube.

The whistle, you can see progress on the paddle too - http://youtu.be/YSnecUYl0pc (http://youtu.be/YSnecUYl0pc)
Last but not least a bit of a build log - http://www.homemodelenginemachinist.com/showthread.php?t=22191 (http://www.homemodelenginemachinist.com/showthread.php?t=22191)
I sure looks like there are a lot of great folks here !

Hi PETE
Welcome to the Forum ;D
I saw your videos on your youtube-channel, great engine! Do you have plans for this? Could be interesting for a coming project of maybe building the USS Cairo!

Goodness Pete...& welcome :coffee
That 5/8" bore x 3 1/2" stroke D/A twin horizontal engine you have built is :kiss1.............congratulations........
I am relegated to a 12 mm x 20 mm stroke horizontal SAITO Y2DR....
Please keep engine videos or build images coming........Derek :beer

Thanks to all for the kind words !
Gerhard - sorry there aren’t any plans. I have just been figuring things out as I go with just doodles on scratch paper here and there. Most of what I have built has been dictated by the scrap metal stock that’s under my workbench.
Damien - I need to get a log going on the steam engine section. I am a sloooow builder so the updates take a while. It has been several years to get to where I am now. I have a little more time now that the kids are older and are gone all the time with their own stuff.
Derek - I wouldn’t say relegated, that Satio is a really nice machine !! AND yours is a proven runner, mine has a bunch of unknowns...

Hi Pete
This make your work even better than it looks. All built from scratch, without any plans! Wish I could do it :s_cool :bravo :no1b
