as the site has being a bit quiet, i though i might throw in a spanner , to see what reaction i get .
among other things , im thinking of drawing up another paddler , inspired by Glynn guests phatom , i have being looking at another , in a larger formate on 1/72 , W G Hewes/USS Malvern ,approx. 1010mm loa+140 beam+45mm draft
paddle wheel diam 140mm +65mm wide , FaBoat kit
due to sever lack of info ,as photos not so good ,at this time , it will probable be done in a GG approach , nothing wrong w that , but , i would like opinions on the beam ,as i think it should be blown up to 180/200mm+paddle boxes +height of hull above WL ,as these were low slung ,but i got 50 mm out of the maths ,and im thinking 65 mm , to help keep the decks dry .
model will feature a working walking beam ,driven by either a small motor ,or main engine
i have the osprey books +a few more , but details very low
any thoughts ??????

Have a look at the Josie Olsen plans on this site. This has a walking beam powered by a motor/crank.
I built one a couple of years back and used a Meccano gear wheel for the crank (see photos).

thank you for the advice , i have the article ,and look forward to a good read .
the actual model is a bit small for me ,i would like it at 1/48,as we get a lot of wind here.
the walking beam info is really good ,and along the lines of what i was thinking
my thinking has progressed to a ply hull ,as i would like freeboard of at least 65 mm , saves joining a balsa wood plank , it will be f/glassed any-way .

I prefer small scales unlike most others...lol!

OK but i don't think i can post photos , due to poor internet at this end +just brought a new business ,winding up old one ,so dont expect much progress for 4/8 weeks ,but i think i have organized the paddle wheel covers , w plenty of fine flutes

gday guys ,
i found some more info on the net ,inc. there is a paper model of the "teazer " a good info find ,showing deck and hatch details for these vessels
i now feel confident to produce a model plan in 1/72 scale , for a Glyn Guest approach model .
it looks a bit small, even at 1010/1090 mm loa +i need to move the paddle shaft back , more towards the centre of the hull , as I had originally drawn it more forward ,still to sort this out .
looking forward to putting together the walking beam engine , which i intend to run at about 1/2 the real drive engines revs , i will try to make it all out of HIPS , w small brass bearings ,as top hamper weight , is a issue +intend to blow beam out too 180 mm , for added stability
