Title: SS Bessemer
Post by: thewharfonline on October 07, 2013, 04:55:58 PM
Just stumbled upon this one, a four wheeled paddle steamer with a swinging cabin designed to stop sea sickness. Not as successful as one hoped. Anyone know anything more than Wikipedia?

There is a book titled Bizarre ships of the 19th century with some info and also the twin hull calais and drawings. I have seen drawings of the Bessemer can't don't have them on my hard disk for some reason. try looking at this google search--plenty of info here, esp in transactions of the am Soc of Mech eng,  v 19 which has a long article on Henry Bessemer (Bessemer steel etc) and his seasickness.

Engineering, Oct 9, 1874 (vol 18)  has an article on the Bessemer saloon.
hope that helps
