Title: Three cylinder single acting oscillating marine engine.

Hi,

While working through some of my photographs on photobucket I came across some photographs of the prototype 3 cylinder marine engine I built some years ago.  As it might be found interesting I have posted a couple of the photographs which follow.  The idea was to produce a marine steam engine with the option of either a single shaft drive or a twin contra rotating shaft drive.  The engine works very well but as has not been tried in a hull.  It has an interesting cylinder action when running.

Marvellous! Must be a joy to watch something like that which you built yourself working as it was designed to do. Are all the engines out of synch? If so it must be hard to watch them all going on differnt cycles. Please let us see the rest of your collection hiding in the back of the photos. Cheers, Ian.

Most of these engines are R+D or prototype engines and are just screwed onto some varnished decking.  I will take some photographs and post them later.

I have recently finished a prototype boiler for a stern wheeler and two modified versions of it are being made.  So as a bit of a break from boiler making I fitted this boiler along with the engine mentioned above to a recently made mounting board.  The engine is now finished from these earlier photographs.

Alas I only had a small amount of Sterno so only managed a 5 minute run.
