hi everybody
i have to cut a access hatch ,flush with the deck, so that i may get to the servo
is there any way that ican make this opening watertight and still let me gain access the servo
one suggestion was to fill the gap with vasoline, however that does not appeal to me
any help will be appreciated

Hi PD's......Ken.......there are many alternatives that you could consider here........though some could depend on the style or type of vessel & the scale & overall sizing :hammer
1. is the hatch intended to be hidden or flush with the deck?
2. could you modify & use the hatch as an intended visual access for cargo or crew?
3. would a square or rectangular coming raised above the deck to mirror the footprint of the cut-out be objectionable?
4. do you foresee water washing over the vessel deck during a worst case scenario when in use?

I like to use thin foam strip glued around and in the recess.

I used rubber draft excluder as off wooden windows. The hatch is screwed down with 4 screws hidden in hatches.

thanks for the intel. as the hatch is flush with the deck and it has to be removable to clean up any water that may enter the hull through the prop shaft. i will give the raised combing a deal of thought and may m,ake a feature of it and place some life rafts on it

if you have room , not my idea, i saw a bloke who recessed the lower part of the hatch , into the deck , result was a smaller opening inside , but on the ledge he formed , he then could stick a piece of plastic down to this w electrical tape , to keep all water out .
he then replaced the original deck into the hole in the deck, suitable re-inforced w wooden strips under it to hold shape ,the hatch was flush w the deck 100% water -proof , and near invisible
