Hello. Can somebody please help me as I have a Graupner Glasgow that I purchased second hand 2 years ago. My problem is that the standard small 13 tooth drive gear has broken, the large 39 tooth gear is ok. I have tried to get replacements from Cornwall Models and Westbourne Models to no avail. Graupner will not reply to e-mails probably as they have gone belly up. Does anybody have suggestions on alternative gears to use or a company that can supply a replacement. I have been to a gear milling company this morning who advised me that these gears are far from standard and to mill a replacement will not be cost effective.

Hi Would either of these be of any use they would probably need modifying. These are links to Items I have bought in the past from Ebay both are gearboxes designed for aircraft but I have used them successfully in many model boats.

can you measure the od of the gears if so add 2 the number of teeth and divide it ie 39 +2 divided by od that will give you the dp then you can order a spare from tecnobots or similar

Hi there, To be honest I think you are going to need to replace both geers. You can use any 3:1 ratio as long as they will fit the drive shafts. As a suggestion try looking at the S.H.G. marine web site(www.shgmodels.com). Or how about meccano chain and sprockets? I am using them on my new steam paddler.

gday , if you have to replace the ponnion gear , go the whole way , and fit toothed belts , XL in preference , i have to my paddlers , and they go for years !!!
MXL are a bit fine , too much load, another good choice is HTD metric , bigger teeth
i have the same kit , and from new , Im fitting toothed belts

hi
when i built my strongbow (glasgow lookalike or similar) i used a model tank motor and gearbox. this gave me independant paddle control at a speed of 160 rpm with a 12v supply. drops back to about 120 rpm with a 7.2v supply. using plan size 100mm paddles speed is true to scale and looks fabulous. can get a bit busy at times if rudder is required. rudder is the 3rd channel. ACTion electronics P96 mode 3 is probably the best option if a single throttle stick is required.

my other aft mounted sidepaddler with 180mm paddles uses T5 beltdrives and MFA 50:1 385 single reduction motors. these motors are good from 4.5v to 15v and naturally final rpm is completely dependent on supply voltage and throttle input.
