Title: MV/SWPV Dixie II (Lake Tahoe, USA)
Post by: Roderick Smith on November 06, 2012, 04:08:44 PM
I was at the lake today, but not with sufficient time to cruise with any operator.
This one may be fake SWPV: even the operator describes it as MS and not as a paddlewheeler.
I can't see any Pitman arm.

I don't know why a lake astride Nevada & California needs a fake Mississippi boat, and one with a southern name.  There are lots of relevant local names available.  SS Tahoe has been used: the sunk remains can be viewed from some cruises.  Carson and Truckee are local rivers.

No pitmans, but a "real" Diesel sternwheeler with powered wheels however: Presumably a hydrostatic drive:

There are some pictures on the web showing an amount of spray and wake from the wheels that I couldn't explain if the were just dummies. And in some youtube videos, you can see the wheels spinning independently while docking.
