Title: Model boiler tube tool design
Post by: Markds on September 11, 2012, 04:28:34 AM
Being new to steam boilers and engines naturally there are questions, lots of them. And an important consideration happens to be the tools needed to taper/expand, roll over edge, etc. Does anyone know of an existant list of model steam tools and their design so one could make the needed tooling? Thank you very much.

I am new to this also but have done metal work all my life being a jeweler/metalsmith/caster.I have a shop lathe/mill and assorted silversmithing tools and mandrels. From what I have observed regarding the hobby what helps is a background in pattern making and machining skills. This kind of knowledge enables one to  make the tools necessary to carry out most operations regarding steam engines and boilers.Look for threads on boiler making(there are some good ones)they will explain most things that you have questions about.I am surprised no one else with more experience then I responded to your query.Joe
