Title: Paddle box fan design?
Post by: Lornadoone2 on February 19, 2012, 04:28:03 AM
what is the best way of making the fan shape on the paddle boxes of my boat?
it has been said i should have the design laser cut or etched brass made?
the trouble is i have no details of the pattern as most vessels were different and any images of her as lorna doone or queen of thanet or even queen of kent can anyone help?
Thank You
J

Hello folks. That certainly looks like one of the converted WW1 racecourse class minesweepers converted for mecrantile use in the 1920s. Model Boats dd an article on this class with a small plan. I dont think the paddle box design was changed in civvie street. I am just going off the topof my head as all my books are boxed up. If I am correct there should be a copy of the article in paddleducks archives. Regards, Walter.

not very good pictures but the bast I can come up with at the moment....
.....they're in 'Glory Days - Paddle Steamers by David L Williams, if I had a working scanner I could get much better pics...
...Now I look at them the design looks similar to the 'Albion' in Model Boats a while back, if anyone has that article and could scan the part about constructing them it might help

Wow those images are fantastic and show the paddle box design well thank you
i think i need to have them done in etched brass to really do them justice the other way i thought of doing them was in thin square section plastic strips curved to form the lines shown.

I will have to talk to Clyde model boats i think??
