Title: steam engine animation
Post by: mightydog on November 10, 2011, 05:51:23 AM
Hi folks
There was a steam engine animation on the net that had a rod connected to a slide valve.  The other end terminated in a long slot.  the rod would slide back and forth in the slot before moving the slide valve.  The engine was horizontal and of long stroke I believe.  seems by varying the length of slot you vary the timing of the slide valve.  If anyone has a link to the animation or any info on what type of linkage it might be I would be great full for and information.
Thanks

Hi David,
I don't know off hand which animation you are referring too, but if you google steam valve gear you will find some. This one http://www.steamlocomotive.com/appliances/valvegear.php shows a lot of the various types. This one http://www.steamlocomotive.com/appliances/valvegear.php allows you to design your own.

Gerald.
