Title: Who turned the heat up?
Post by: Eddy Matthews on June 27, 2011, 03:48:17 AM
To keep my mind off everything that's happened at home, I've been decorating the house - I've got the girls bedroom done, and the hallway and staircase. Now I've started on the lounge....  Stripped all the wallpaper off, and today I've made a start on emulsioning the ceiling, but at about 25 celcius today, the sweat has been pouring out of me, up and down a stepladder all afternoon.

I'm about 3/4 of the way to completing the ceiling, but I really cannot stand the heat any more - Tomorrow is forecast to be even hotter!! So work has been abandoned until tuesday....

It's probably just as well, since I cannot afford to buy the wallpaper for the room yet anyway - Have you seen the price of wallpaper nowadays? I nearly had a heart attack!!

Hi Eddy

Have you though of papering with  plain paper and then every couple of years you only have to emulsion it.  That way you get a change of colour without the labour of wallpapering. (especially when it's hot outside  :) )

My Wife  (the chief decorator !) says  "Wallpaper is So out" these days. People tend go for plain walls.

I know what you mean Ken, but the fact is that I'd rather wallpaper than paint! I hate painting!

The two Nangiloc photos in my Jessie II series (www.paddleducks.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=2475.msg29540#msg29540) were taken in what I stated in the text was 40 deg C, but which I recall was 44 deg C.  Melbourne reaches 40 from time to time, but northern Victoria is hotter.
2 years ago, Melbourne reached 44 for a couple of days: a lot of suburban trains failed in that heat (mainly failure of the airconditioning system).
44 and dry is more comfortable than 38 with high humidity.

25 degrees is a gorgeous day! Had a beautiful 25 here in Iowa City today! (Current location) Sat outside with friends... absolutely lovely!

However, up a ladder, with the laws of hot air rises and inside, chances are it could have been warmer.

The problem comes when the paint has dried before the brush has reached the end of its stroke.  Back in the days, that was also a problem with Humbrol model paints when I was assembling Airfix kits (paddleboats and railway locomotives).
Australia never had jokes about frying eggs on footpaths [sidewalks]: they were baked before the shell could be cracked.
Combining hobbies, Iowa stubborn (from the stage musical Music Man):

and lots more by Googling.

Aussie bushman: 'I see you've learned the Barcoo salute'.
Prince Phillip, wiping a fly from his face while on tour: 'What do you mean?'.
