Title: Paddle gunboat HMS Pioneer?
Post by: David Powell on June 13, 2005, 06:05:19 PM
Has anyone out there any knowledge of a paddle gunboat called Pioneer?
apparently this gunboat was built in Sydney (Australia) for use in
the MAORI war, I have tried the Sydney maritime museum but all I get
from them is "Fluff". Come on guys this would have to be a challenge,
who knows maybe I'll get lucky.........Davo

David

Do you have a year period? - the only reference to I have to an HMS Pioneer
is the cruiser built at Chatham dockyards (UK), commissioned in 11/1900 then
transferred to RAN in in 1914, but that is a little after the waring years
you suggest

Mind you I am (proud) descendent from a first fleet convict to Australia,
but must agree it is difficult to get information out of the maritime museum
