Yet more sad news I'm afraid....
Ros Badger phoned me earlier to say that Stuart Badger sadly passed away yesterday...
As some of you will know, Stuart had lung cancer, and even though his illness was slowly catching up with him, he made a huge effort to build his model of the Connaught and come to last years Paddler Day - Something he was determined to do!
Stuart and I had become very good friends, and whilst he and Ros were in the UK, we (my wife Roz and myself), spent a week having days out to visit all the attractions in the local area together. Who would have thought that both Ros (Badger) and I would be facing the same thing within a couple of weeks!
Stuart made a huge contribution to the Paddleducks website, and would take the time to explain his modelling methods to anyone that cared to ask. He was a real gentleman and a magnificent craftsman, as well as a true friend!
You will be sadly missed by me Stuart, and I hope by many others in our little corner of the Internet. Rest in peace my friend.
Regards
Eddy

may i just say how much inspiration he gave to modellers.
i consider myself a good modeller,. but was always inspired by the beauty, crispness and sheer detail of Stuarts work, and i for one, will miss that....he could show us all a thing or two, and will for ever be in a class of his own.
R.I.P. Stuart, and peace be with you and your family always.

Sad news indeed, a fine craftsman and a kinder man you would could not wish to meet. I too met him at last years PD's day and you could instantly have a conversation with him as if you had known each other for ages. My Condolences to his family.

Stuart was a great help to me.
Modelling knowledge like that you don't find often and from someone so willing to part with the knowledge.
Another of the hobbies good guys leaves us and will be missed.
I hope heaven's model making dep't have installed a large enough test tank for Stuart's models!

Read this thread then went through to the back bedroom to have a look at Connaught. My condolences to Ros.
A gentleman of immense courage and a magnificent craftsman.
Below the man himself in his moment of glory.

Hi PD's....yes it is a day of loss to our paddler modeling fraternity .....my first communications with Stuart were some 10 years ago in our original PD group on YAHOO
Stuart was well into his build of PS Reliant....& a surperb build & thread he provided to our members & a learning curve for all
One snippet from Stuart was......"treat every component ...be it a deck winch or mast....& consider it as an individual model in itself...then adding all of the sub component models into the master build" :bravo
I offer a :beer toast to Stuart......Derek

Although I knew the truth, I was hoping never see this post
Maybe I am the only lucky Greek modeler who had the chance to meet Stuart and his kind wife.
As a well known Greek enthusiast he offered me his true friendship starting with frequently emails, changed later to shared home visits.
I had the luck to see him working in his man cave as he was used to call his workshop, admiring his mind and his skill
He was a great man a good buddy, who even he knew his condition, never lost his sense of humor, finding even the courage to support me effectively in a tricky period of my life
I will sadly miss him

(Good bye my friend) I hope meet you again in the other side.

Hello all, well it has been a dificult time for our little fraternity here across the globe recently. I am devastated to hear this sad sad news, not unexpected but still very sad. Although I never got the chance to meet with Stuart, he made a concious effort to befriend all who were keen on modelling. In my hours of dark despair with recent events he and his wife were friends from afar encouragement and compassion with good sound advice ws offered but never forced. To them I salute them for their compassion and kindness, to Ros I can only offer these words of comfort, a good man and friend gone but will not be forgotten.

Hi this is Ros. Can I thank you all very much for your kind words and condolences. I have only just managed to sign on to the Forum to read all your posts. Being a member of the Forum and focusing on building RMS Connaught kept Stuart going all last year and gave him a focus while undergoing the chemo. He really enjoyed the trip to Paddlers Day and it was magnificent to see Connaught sail then and subsequently on Loch Lomond.
His workshop is sadly quiet and Hercules remains nearly finished. I hope that perhaps Malcolm, his youngest brother, may be able to finish it or at least there must be someone who could. The past few weeks have been very difficult but over the past week I have felt more like my old self. I plan to stay on Naxos for the forseeable future and will gradually identify the equpiment and materials in the workshop. I do hope there is a phillips screwdriver in there somewhere.
Stuart wanted no ceremony or fuss so I travelled to Bulgaria for the cremation on 25 May in Sofia. Stuart's ashes will be scattered in the sea in front of our house and his workshop on the full moon in September. On Paddlers Day 4 September (which would have been our 35th wedding anniversary) I will be holding a party here to celebrate Stuart's life. Anyone who knew him would be welcome but if you can not make it I hope you raise a glass to Stuart.
Once again thank you so much for your messages.

I'll take a couple of bottles of wine with me to Paddler Day Ros, and we'll all raise a glass to Stuart (to be honest it will probably be styrene cups, but the container isn't important!) - He will most certainly be in my thoughts on that day!
Best wishes
Eddy

Ros
I don't think I will be able to make Paddler Day. If I can't sail Connaught on Loch Lomond on the 4th, I can't get it out of the house on my own, I WILL go down to the shore and raise a glass to a gentleman and a craftsman.
I applaud your decision to hold a party to celebrate Stuart's life, not least because I know how difficult anniversarys, birthdays etc. can be.
I will soon have to move Connaught out of the back bedroom to make room for my elder daughter coming back from Oman for a visit. Shorter term guests have to sleep with the lady which I think might amuse Stuart.
Wishing you peace and comfort.
Andy
