Hi PD's.........here is a posting I offered to Model Mayhem 8)
It relates to out own PD WEB site...but suggest it is good cross value
Essentially we need Pee Wee or KIWI to answer my question ......... a few years back I could access the PD file of opening images........but that is now no longer available ........Derek

"Many years ago British and Europen ships had side rudders ( like Viking ships) not rudders hung on the stern like today the rudder was hung on the right hand quarter and this was known as the steer board side of the ship over the centuries it got corrupted to starboard side ... because seaman did not wish to damage the rudder they used to tie up in harbour and lay along side on the opposite side and this was called the layaboard side --- It became corrupted to larboard side and some time in the 16th /17th century it became the port side (the side to be to the port or harbour) as a point of interest most modern single screw ships still prefer to go port side too as the transverse thrust of the propeller aids them to do it"______________________________________________________________________________________________________
In our Paddleducks web site we have random opening images & one is of the same medival vessel with the rudder on the STDB side
I will ask our new PD controller/moderators if we can get access to the PD random opening images [files] ... & provide this back.......Derek

Hi Derek,
Which image do you mean? i have been all through the folder and can not locate a medivial vessal with a side rudder. I could take a copy if i knew which one.
On the access front, i would not look at making changes so early on in the transition stage whilst Harry and I are getting our feet under the table. A steady Duck should be key for ahwile.

OK you got me, where or what are the side rudders. saw that one and passed it by. :-[

I've seen that picture many a time on logging on to the site but never noticed that before... it does seem that the rudder is on the starb'd side - assuming the hull has a more-or-less square stern....
