Title: Work in Progress
Post by: pete on May 17, 2011, 03:49:54 AM
Just to let you know that work has finally started on the Marchioness hull which I was lucky enough to win in the 2010 Paddler Day raffle.

Hi Pete,
I hope you will keep us updated on your "Marchioness".

It would be interesting to know your methods for windows as I see you have the frames and/or glazing in place.

She will make a nice running mate for your Talisman!

regards Clark

Hi Clark,
Rather than cutting windows in the hull, - a messy and tedious business, I have made the windows by cutting the appropriate openings in thin styrene sheet. This is then glazed on the inside and the glazing painted with Tamiya Smoke paint. The styrene sheets are then glued to the hull and the edges of the sheets faired into the hull with filler.
Regards,
Pete

Nice idea, Pete. As you say it is a very tedious part of a build....also you won't have to worry about water ingress through any of the windows. I'm not drilling out the ports near the waterline on my build for that reason, using decals instead.

Clark

I like the idea with the windows Pete - A fairly easy solution!

How do you do the window frames?

Eddy

Hi All,
Pete, that's a great idea for the windows, just a week / 60 windows to late for me  :'(

You're making a very nice job and I'd be very interested to hear more as she progresses.
Regards,
Kim

Thanks for your comments.
Eddy, - the frames are made from styrene strip. The outer framing is fixed around the window aperture and the cross pieces fixed after glazing. (Worth remembering to paint the inside edges of the frames before glazing!!)

Pete

Work is slowly progressing. Getting round to adding the detail now, which has prompted a question.
There appears to be a piece of machinery on the roof of the forward superstructure, aft of the bridge and on the port side of the lifejacket stowage. Can anyone tell me what it is, - and what it looks like!
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Pete

She's looking very nice indeed, are you doing her with the open bridge?

I had a quick look for pics of her to see the item you mentioned....can't find one that shows that area clearly! Will keep looking.
A guess....could it possibly be a fresh water tank with vent pipe on top?

regards
Clark

Hi All,

Clark, there are water tanks on the aft house Fresh and sanitary, these are placed above the ticket office.

According to the builder's drawing the only thing on the Port side of the Life Jacket Locker is a Stove vent... Perhaps it had a peculiar vent on top? (normally these had an 'H' shaped exhaust? )

Looking at a pic of Sandy's MOL he has something in this area but from photos i can't make out what exactly.

Hope it helps
Kim
