Title: Construction of the steamer Svaytitel Nikolay
Post by: Wizard on March 01, 2011, 12:05:15 AM
In developing the model, drawings, faced with the problem.
On factory assembly drawings is unknown. On a real ship at this point it is not.
I do not know what it is. Help to understand what it is?

It looks like a winch.

on this site http://www.krasplace.ru/paroxod-svyatitel-nikolaj (also posted elsewhere in this forum - under 'russian paddlesteamers') there are a few pictures and in the 5th one down the page (an old sepia photo) you can see that item from the side, it looks to me like a very large windlass, taller than the men standing around it!
unfortunately, in the second (colour) photo on the page, showing the ship presumably in present day condition, the item appears to have been removed but you can find a picture of that part of the ship (and others) in the gallery near the bottom of the page and the anchor setup and the capstan are still there.... if that's any help at all...
