The first issue of Scientific American magazine had an article about the steam ship Great Britain. An interesting quote from this article stated, "If there is anything objectionable in the construction or machinery of this noble ship, it is the mode of propelling her by the screw propeller; and we should not be surprised if it should be, ere long, suerceded by paddle wheels at the side." ;)

So there we have it, conclusive proof that paddle wheels are the only true way to power a ship! :clap
