Title: INTRODUCTION
Post by: rayn on March 19, 2010, 06:49:27 PM
Hello, as a new member I thought I would inrtroduce myself:  My name is Ray Nolton,
resident in Dalgety bay in Fife.  My main interest in life is actually as a railway modeller, and I am
involved with a Group building a model in 4mm scale (1:76) of Burntisland in 1883 (i.e. before the Forth Bridge
was built). and am presently involved in making a suitable paddle tug for the harbour, which is  why I have
joined this august group for advice and inspiration.  Having said that, I was introduced to paddlers at an
early stage, being brought up in Middlesbrough and regularly saw John H Amos as a boy, and I then
spent 30-odd years as an engineer in the Royal Navy, so ships are not  exactly unknown to me!

I presently have the "Strongbow" plans, and Thomas' Steam Tugs book, as well as a near source of advice
and "stuff" from Andy McCue at Scoonie Hobbies just up the road, and am working on a suitable hull at the
present time.  I would appreciate any help and advice as I proceed with this project - for interest, we already
have a working train ferry and "floating bridge" on the layourt, and a passenger ferry as well.  I will post some
photos in the near future.

regards

Ray

Hi Ray & welcome,
Sounds like an interesting project. The info you have along with the info and adivce available from this site should help you produce a  good model for your project.
Have a search for Eddy's Sir William Wallace build might be of interest to you.
