Title: PS Bristol Queen

Hi Everybody,

The ongoing lack of opportunity to get building, due to work and social commitments, has meant I have spent many hours at work drawing and planning several different projects, (I have an entirely reactive job, when nothing breaks, nothing to do so lots of drawing time, sadly no chance to build and the hours suck!) and I have now got to drawing up in detail the Bristol Queen.

A few years ago I got a shipyard general arrangement (1:96) and lifeboat plan with a great profile and deck outline (1:48) from the National Maritmie Museum, but in order to really draw this ship up accuratly at my working scale of 1:32 I am hoping to find some more shipyard plans for it, unfortunatly so far I have not found anything.

Does anyone know where I might be able to find them? Especially a midship section, and best of all hull lines!

Any ideas gratefully received.

Hi Andrew,
I would give the national maritime museum another try....a few years ago I purchased a ship plan from them, from a pro forma they sent me, however, that list did not have all the drawings I wanted for that particular ship, so I went back and asked if they might possibly have anything else, and I got another list with more plans for the ship!!
So, if they have some BQ drawings, they may well have more lurking about if they look.

UCS2/120/738/25 Govan Division: Ship Plans: Ship No. 738: PS 'Cardiff Queen': Design Office Drawings a Technical Data: Lines
This paddler is just about the same dimensins as BQ 244.7x31.2x10.5 and CQ is 240x30.1x9.75.   Also the Whippingham(1930) is very near  at 244x30.1x10.5  [UCS2/120/641/1    Govan Division: Ship Plans: Ship Nos. 641 a 642: PS 'South Sea' a 'Whippingham': Lines. Rolled Plan.        
] and  With a little mod on the lines plans you could have a perfect fit. see my topic above "paddler plans galore". Hope this is of help to you.

Hello folks I am back again. Ithink Mike Mayhew at Waverley models does plans for both Bristol Queen and cardiff Queen and I am pretty sure that      ps ps archives also have a full set. Both these sources will be much cheaper than NMM which I dont rate very highly for srvice and their costs are prohibitive. regards walter

Thanks guys for the pointers, letters have been sent off, replies eagerley anticipated!

Since the discovery of the NAS website, I have discovered there are waaaay more plans of Cardiff Queen and Jeanie Deans available to me than those I already have, so I am sending off for those so as to enhance my drawings for those projects, Waverley I already have a pile on, but this leaves Bristol Queen very much lacking, I would like to be able to draw, and eventually build at the same level of accuracy as the others, holding out a lot of hope on this one!

As the Bristol queen was built by Charles Hill at Bristol try the museums in Bristol. R.G.Y.
