Hi!
My name is Mike.
I've always wanted to build a paddle steamer and now I have the opportunity!
I'm due to have some major surgery in a few weeks. Then I have to rest up for several months. So I thought that this could be an excellent opportunity to have something to potter at during this period.
I've built a couple of model aircraft in my youth (flown on a line) and once built a RC hydroplane for my son, but that was many years ago, so I'm pretty much a beginner.

Hi Mike, welcome to the friendy and ever so helpfull Paddler site. You've chosen a good crowd to meander along with and the sound of steam belching, at least I hope that is what the noise is ;) coming from Down under. You mention that you've done some modelling in the past this will stand you in good stead and they are a relatively simple build as lomng as you remember to keep the weight as low as possible and on the centre line with little in the way of top hamper or excessive weight there too! fisrt and foremost enjoy the time you spend with us.
cheers
Jim

Mike, I hope your op was a success. Nice to find someone near to me in Devon. I shall be in Weston next weekend at the beach race 11/ 10 /09,( mechanic to my son ). He came 173rd last year not bad for an amateur in a field of 1,200. Are you old enough to remember Campbells? I have a model of the Glen Usk built from my own plans at 48th scale powered by a Cheddar steam plant. Geoff
