To try and get an idea of how many people will be coming to the 2009 Paddler Day, please place your vote above...
We realise this won't give an accurate reflection of the number of people attending, as a lot of people aren't members of Paddleducks, but hopefully it will give us an idea which is useful for planning what is required.

Joking here Eddy but make it mandatory that anyone who does attend the Paddler Day has got to joing the forum. We know they'll like it here and be amongst friends.
Sorry to confirm this but I'll not make it this year either. the company I wor for are having a trade show on over that weekend. ::) Wht bad timig on their part.

The North Tyneside Council informed me, that they have now removed 7 tons of weed from the lake and you still can't sail on it properly Sandy

You could always have a run down to Darlington and sail as my guest Sandy.... Wednesday afternoons from 12 till about 6pm, and sunday mornings from 8am till 12 midday.
The invite also stands for any other member of Tynemouth club that fancy a wee jaunt to the far flung south :)

and the original 2006-07 thread. Even then, people noticed the benefit for the lakes where model paddleboats are used.
Perhaps a club could build a smaller, trailable, one and take it to events?

At Wentworth, some of the weed blocking a rally-site mooring was munched by running big paddleboats through, thus allowing smaller boats easier access.
I have already placed a no vote: I will not be in UK this year (and just as well that I didn't build a program around Waverley's cruising schedule).

Only six weeks to go until the big day, time to start getting those models ready or to put the finishing touches to any new builds.....
Six weeks sounds like a long time, but believe me it will be on us before we know it!

Not sure about finishing touches, the Glasgow has not progressed since the i started the build thread due to work. six weeks for the build completion? here's hoping.

Only four weeks to go guys...... Native American Indians have a rain dance, but does anyone know if there is a sun and fine weather dance we can do?
Don't forget to dig out all those odds and ends you want rid of and put them on the Bring & Buy stall - Anything vaguely related to modelling is fine, it doesn't have to be paddler stuff! A 10% commission will be payable by the seller on any succesful sales to help with the costs of staging the event.

Following my entry of 20th July, latest hi-tech efforts by North Tyneside Council attached. I might add that after physically removing surface weed 2 weeks ago, it has grown in again and covers the surface; and to think we can put even put men on the moon! Sandy

I've just been informed that Marine Modelling International magazine has listed the Paddler Day as taking place on the 30th of September - That is INCORRECT!!
The CORRECT date is the 20th of September and NOT as listed in the magazine!
If you know of any of your club members that may be coming to the event, PLEASE make sure they know the correct date - We don't want people turning up only to be disappointed! Remember that not everyone has internet access, so please help us to get the correct date out to those people!

Okay, I'm off on my holidays as from tomorrow until the 12th of september, but I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at our Paddler Day in two weeks time....
If anyone needs any help with accomodation, directions to our club, or anything else, please let me know and I'll reply as soon as I get back.
In the meantime, pray for fine weather and light winds!!

Hello chaps, no, sorry to say that I'll definitely not be down to the paddlerday this year. I've got to work the whole of that weekend at the local Ideal Homes Exhibition over both Sat & Sun. Please enjoy yourselves and remember to take all the photos that the rest of us who cannot attend will be looking forward to.

At the moment the Met office are saying the weather will be cloudy, but fine, with light 8mph winds and 15-16 celsius....

My final update to the weather reports before the big day, for those that may be making last minute plans....
Sunday will be dry with broken cloud and some sunny spells. Temperature 17 celcius, with a light west to north-westerly breeze of 2mph gusting to 13mph.
So it sounds like it will be almost ideal conditions! :yeahbaby

Perhaps, before the winter comes i might try and get down and come for a sail just to come say hello and (fingers crossed) bring Talisman and a new set of wheelsand the remainder of the knife sets.

Anyway there should still be two Model Steamer Club paddlers there on Sunday.
Slight suggestion Eddy - any chance of avoiding the Great North Run next year - looks like this is the reason it's been so blooming difficult to get accomodation. Only sussed this out when one of the guys in my office asked for sponsorship!! Every travel lodge / premier inn within 100 miles of Newcastle is booked out.
Still, batteries are being charged - (hopefully) - accomodation finally secured through a cancelation - guess the runner who pulled out has cold feet - and prayers have been made to the weather gods. I look forward to seeing you all on Sunday.

The first few photos from the 2009 Padder Day are now in the photo gallery - I certainly didn't get photos of all the boats as I just didn't have time, but hopefully it will give a flavour of the event.
More photos will follow over the next week or so, and I'll add descriptions later....
We had perfect weather, so much so that I even got sunburnt! And everyone I spoke to said they had a great day...

Just a quick report on todays proceedings, as I'm tired after a long day.....
I arrived at the club at 7am, and along with a few of the other early birds, it was straight down to work.... Some people were in the cafe preparing food, putting out tables and chairs etc etc. Others were putting tables out near the clubhouse for models to be displayed on. And yet more were out on the lake laying bouys and other odds and ends....
By about 8:30am everything was ready, so it was time for a quick bacon and egg sandwhich - Thanks Walter!!
Shortly after that the visitors started to arrive, and after the inevitable chinwag, catching up with old friends and quite a few new ones, the models slowly started to appear - Joe Hardy arrived from Tynemouth MBC and much to my surprise he had a paddler!! Joe has done nothing but slag off paddlers for all the years I've known him, but it was always very tongue in cheek and not to be taken seriously! Never the less he kept his paddletug Bamburgh as a complete surprise! And I think he enjoyed the day...
Hans, Joerg, and Danni had again made the long trip over from Switzerland and Germany, and we had lots of people from all over Scotland, and even as far down as Wales, so all in all a great turnout.
The weather gods were on our side and we had glorious sunshine with very light winds throughout the day. In fact it was so nice that I got sunburnt!! :(
After a very pleasant days sailing, the result of the voting for the Best Paddler on the Water, and the Best Novelty Paddler was announced by Ian Archibald (our club secretary) in the village hall we'd hired for the day. Best Paddler on the Water was won by Gavin Johnston of the Model Steamer Club for his model of the Glen Sannox, and Best Novelty Paddler was won by Doug White of Darlington & District MBC for his model of our Paddleducks Logo.
At that point it was about 4pm, and as a lot of our visitors had long journeys home, they started to depart.... And at 5pm we had cleared everything away, and were ready to leave ourselves. It was a long and tiring day, but I for one thoroughly enjoyed it! A day by the lake with friends old and new, who all had a common interest - What could be better?
As usual, we owe a great deal of thanks to the members of Darlington & District MBC for their never ending support and help in setting everything up, and also a special thankyou to Rita Barras and her daughter for doing a sterling job in the cafe all day.

Thanks everyone who attended. It was a great day- especialy seeing Eddys monster on the water for the first time). he will have a tripple hernia AND a heart attack carrying that ferry! It was lovely to see a model of THE BEST LOOKING PADDLER EVER Glen Sannox on the water. I would have loved to sail Waverly alongside it but alas we were both on the same Frequency!
I must admit to some trepidation last week with all the running about, organising signs catering and shopping but it was all worth it! The parade of paddlers was something to see. I reckon it was probably the largest gathering of paddlers on the water at one time ever!
I am looking forward to the pictures from our photographer Dave who took over 200 pictures which will be to his usual high standard and will be posted by Eddy.
As usual we overcatered - I thought the HUGE german hot dogs would sell out especialy as I had got some saurkraut in especialy but I think i ate most of those that were sold! The lads in the club will be eating hot dogs for the next month!
Again, thanks to all those who came especialy in this time of financial difficulties. Incidentaly there was one very intriguing model of an American civil war gunboat which was built from an enlarged card model featured in an earlier paddleducks which absolutely reaked character- built by member from Wales (sorry I left his details in the club) who had some incredibly fine lazercut paddle wheels on this model and on display.

Just to add a little to Walter's comment on the paddler parade, I counted 19 paddlers sailing on the water (and 2 ducks) and there were another two moored up alongside :bravo Perhaps one of Dave's photos will be clear enough to verify by counting.

Many thanks to all the hard working members for putting on such a fabulous show. The organisation was superb and the food excellent. I would have indulged in one of Walter's hotdogs but the weather was so warm for a Scot that I stuck to the teacake! There were some wonderful models to be seen and the parade was extraordinary. How no one ran into each other will forever remain a mystery. I do have some video footage taken on board from the 'little' Sir William Wallace that gives some idea of what was going on and once I've edited out the bits where I park it up against the bank I'll pass it on to Eddy for posting. Thanks again for a wonderful day.

Thanks to Eddy and his helpers for giving us another enjoyable event and with ideal weather for those models who can't operate in gale force winds like our Tynemouth paddlers! :clap
To those who missed it, it is a worth while day out, and even to just spectate.
The parade of paddlers was a test of navigation, someone tell that duck, that paddlers can't turn as sharp as him! I'm going to have to fit a bow thruster on my WAVERLEY!

I'm still aching from head to foot after all the lugging around of tables and chairs and numerous other things yesterday!
I should just clarify one point, as it would be unfair not to.... The basic organisation is actually down to three of us in the Darlington club. Walter Snowdon handled the arrangements at the club and recruiting volunteers, I handled publicising the event and dealing with emails and phonecalls from those that wanted info, and Bob Golder dealt with the paperwork and finances etc. And then of course all the club members that gave their time so freely on the actual day....
So there is no way I can take credit for everything - I'm just one little cog in the wheel.

One of our visitors to the show had a model on static display called Coeur de Lion.
Sadly I don't know his name or where he was from (Wales I think?). If this was your model, or you know the chap that built it, please get in touch so we can add your details to the photos from the day....
At first it looked like a nice little paddler, but the more you looked, the more detail you could see! A gorgeous model for which the builder deserves credit!

Hello Hans- We dont allow any form of infernal combustion engines on the water. BUT if you opened the windows and used CANOE PADDLES you have the perfect paddler!. regards, Walter.

After numerous counts and recounts, we have eventually figured out how many models were at this years show.... In 2007 we got about 25 entries, 2008 saw around 35, and this year we got 42 - Of those 42, 34 sailed at some point during the day!
So each year we've steadily increased the numbers of boats, and the number of visitors. I hope that shows we're doing something right, and people enjoy the day?
Visitors travelled from Wales, Tyneside, Northumberland, Teesside, various parts of Scotland, as well as Hans and the crew from Germany and Switzerland.
Lets see if we can get 50 plus models at next years show!

Hi Eddy,
on our journey to the paddlerday we carried 6 paddler, on our way back the number of models has increased to 7 paddlers. But next year when Joerg has completed his "Lulonga" there will not so much space left for other models ;D but we try to squeeze in as much as possible.
