Title: Building the sternwheeler Bertrand
Post by: Eddy Matthews on May 23, 2005, 08:44:11 PM
Here's an article on building a lovely looking sternwheeler called the Bertrand.  I'll get Walter to dig out the magazines that continue the build next week...

A fascinating read. Is there a possibility of the accompanying articles being posted in future please?

cheers

The magazines that the articles came from were supplied by Walter Snowdon - I'll have a word with him on wednesday and see if I can get hold of the rest to scan Jim.

It may be a week or so, but hopefully we can get the whole article posted.

It's a small world Joe :-)

Could you ask him if the drawings for this boat are available, and if so where from please?

By luck I also know Alan Bates, the marine architech who drew the plans. He has a lot of great plans. He lives in Louisville. Kentucky and I sent him an email about your request. Here's what his reply was....
The drawings of the Bertrand are available from both Loyalhanna and me.
The cost is $22.00 plus postage from me.  Shipping would add another $18.00 to $20.00.  The drawings are also available from Harhaus Modelltechnik at Lohsiepenstrasse 6, 42369 Wuppertal, GERMANY.  That could save some postage charges and speed up delivery.
Alan

So there, I done my part. Now go at it guys. I think he also did plans for the Indiana in the post above.

Well Eddy, you've done it again!

 :respect

A great set of articles on the Bertrand, that has inspired me to send away for a set of the plans. That's at least a dozen "must build" paddlers inspired by Paddleducks on my "to do" list now.

I now have about twenty years of producing paddlers of different shapes and sizes lined up in front of me. Sheer bliss!!!

Looking forward to the balance of the Bertrand posts.

Cheers for now
Tony

Thanks Tony - Your "to do" list sounds just like mine! :-)

It will be a few weeks before the Bertrand articles are uploaded. Walter is away on holiday, and he has the rest of the magazines I need to scan. So don't think I've forgotten about it, it will just take a little while....

Hate to be a Nagging Nick, Eddy, but I was just wondering how you were progressing with the balance of the Bertrand build story?

And speaking of build stories - any progress to report on the Suter?

Many tks
tony

No problem Tony - Walter Snowdon, who supplied the article, is away at the moment, but as soon as he returns I'll ask him aboout the rest of the article.... To be honest I don't even know if he has the rest of it, but if he has, rest assured it will be posted right here!

I've had a lot of problems at home over the last few weeks that I won't bore you with, so progress on the Suter has been a lot slower than I would have liked - However, I have made progress, and I hope to do an update in the next few days.

I met Walter on Waverley    last night. He was very busy manning the shop, but got somebody to relieve him    and we had a coffee and a chat for 10 minutes. its always good to meet people    you only know on the Internet in the flesh.
Waverley was on her    annual PSPS evening cruise charter, and was very full with 717 aboard and    a lovely night
