Hello to all PD's.
 I'm a YABA (Yet Another Bl..... Aust... , as Mr Matthews might be tempted to say) located in Melbourne.  I have been interested in paddlers ever since seeing the models of the Port Phillip Bay ships in the Museum in Melbourne some 50 years ago.  Modelling these is my long term ambition but as a novice this is some way off!
I also have fond memories of the Yarra River excursion paddlers which used to dock at Princess Bridge in the center of Melbourne.  From memory these were pretty simple boats.

IIRC none of the Yarra ones was paddle.  There is a booklet available on the Yarra ferries (I own a copy): one of the few marine titles stocked at Railfan Shop, and probably available at Hylands (if you can find the new premises).

I remember MV Jolly Roger: it looked top heavy, and had a reputation for sinking in mid cruise.

Peter may yet post to tell you how to find the regular Sunday cruises at Cairnlea (Deer Park).  He hosted me as an onlooker one day.  Surrey Hills has regular model operation (Canterbury Rd at Elgar Rd), but most models won't be paddle unless it is a theme day.

Rod,

The boats on the Yarra I am referring to were at Princess Bridge in the mid to late 1950's. They certainly had paddles but maybe these were just for show with propeller propulsion.

I have the book off the shelf, and am up to three paddleboats by page 34 of 108.
