Post by: PeeWee on February 25, 2009, 06:08:41 AM
Hi There one and all,
I have been interested in and building model boats for around 20 years, mostly of the grey variety.  i first became intrested when reading the Glen Rose articles back in late 07.  then on spotting the wright up in the latest mag i thought that i should finally decide to build one of these stylish lady's.

Welcome to Paddleducks Ian....

If your into the grey stuff you could always build one of the paddler minesweepers used by the British in the second world war, or even a paddler aircraft carrier if your into American warships?

Regards
Eddy

Thats true, Models by design do HMS Favourite.  doe anyone know if these are any good as i believe they are the old Metcalf moulds and designs.

I also have my eye on the Berry Castle by them

The hulls they produce are indeed the old Metcalf Mouldings hulls, I've never seen one made by Models by Design, so I can't say how good they are...

The Berry Castle would make a nice model, but it would have to be built with a careful eye on the weight, especially the top hamper, as it's a very shallow and narrow hull, so would easily become unstable....

Having said that, with your experience with warships, narrow beams and stability issues are probably well known to you! :)
