Title: Hello from Pennsylvania USA
Post by: philjoe5 on February 20, 2009, 06:27:50 AM
Hello.  I’m new to this forum.  I’m retired, living in southeastern Pennsylvania, USA.  I took up machining as a hobby a few years ago.  My shop has Sieg X2 and X3 milling machines.  I also have a 9x20 lathe and a 10x22 lathe.  A drill press and bandsaw complete my power machinery.  I’ve built several steam engines of Ray HasBrouck design.  They are all the horizontal mill engine #3 in various configurations and sizes.  I’m learning how to be a machinist by honing my skills on this relatively simple but robust design.

In the past I built a few small wooden boats, plywood sheathed dinghies or skiffs but my woodworking skills were limited and job pressures kept me from continuing in that hobby.

So I like boats, and engines, especially steam powered vessels of any size or type.  This seems like a natural place for me to visit.

Cheers,
Phil

The woodworking tools are long gone.  Now I only have room for the metal working machinery.  That's OK though, becasue I seem to be getting better results in now with metal than I did with wood years ago (when my eyesight and nerves were better) ;D.  No I'm afraid my boatbuilding days are gone.

Cheers,
Phil
