Title: Bootjack sternwheelers
Post by: towboatjoe on February 10, 2009, 02:06:21 AM
For you modelers looking for something a little different, how about a bootjack sternwheeled ferry. I've only seen a few in museums and I plan to build one RC'd someday. Check out the info I got on the Denver.

Joe:  Is that a similar design to the American Civil War Eads Class gunboats?  What are the major differences, if any?  Thanks!

I believe it is. I don't know for sure, but these bootjacks existed before the war.

Towboat,

What was the advantage of the bootjack style of hull? It would seam to me to more difficult to keep water tight with the hard corners in the wheel area as well as taking up cargo space.

The article clip i uploaded explains the advantages of the bootjack. That's all I know about the boat. Maybe contact the museum mentioned in the article. They may be able to explain everything about the design.
